Culture is Like a Batch of Eggs – Each One Is Unique and Enriches the Overall Taste and Experience

While the title of this blog is a stretch connection to the Forest Gump quote – “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get,” we believe that when the culture of the school is based on growth of the individual connected to growth of the whole team – you have a much better opportunity for getting the results you want – and in a much more satisfying way than any box of chocolates would ever provide.

Recently, we were conducting a refresher day with school leaders in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Each person in the group had previously completed at least one of our RCG Seminars and came to the session eager for more on the power of leadership coaching. At one point in the day, we asked the school leaders to form small groups, discuss an article on SCARF®, written by David Rock as well as two other articles on presuming positive intent and the mindset of a coach leader. Next, each group was to come up with creative ways to express ideas from the articles demonstrating their ongoing commitment to being leaders who nurture and support a school culture focused on ongoing growth and positive results. The drawing you see in this blog is one of the examples. As you look closely at each of the eggs, what are you noticing? How do these chicks represent what is important within the culture where you live and lead? What eggs would you like to add to the group?

Let us all remember that without a culture of respect, support and ongoing growth and development we miss out on delicious and vital nourishment – even greater and more long lasting than any box of chocolates would ever provide.
