Make the Most of Yourself – Get Involved with Coaching
“The very best thing you can do for the whole world is to make the most of yourself.”
Wallace Wattles
I love this quote which I came across while reading The Heart of Laser-Focused Coaching by Marion Franklin (2019). Making the most of yourself. Isn’t that what coaching is really all about – supporting another person in being their very best self? And, in return – you, as the coach, receive the benefit of personal growth as you serve others.
So, what does it call for you to be your very best self? In my thinking, it calls for personal reflection, including clarity around your values, goals, beliefs and dreams. It calls for giving grace to yourself and others when situations don’t go as we intended. It’s about growing, even if that happens with two steps forward and one step backward.
Let’s say the quote at the beginning of this article got you thinking and you asked a coach to help you to think about living your best life. Just an FYI that the coach will not tell you how to go about doing that. Rather, she might ask:
What does “living your best life” mean to you?
And, that is where clarity may offer itself to you as you give yourself the space to think deeply, even dream about making the most of you. For, dreams lead to goals and goals lead to actions and actions take us to places where we live our best life.
