Every day we are given the opportunity to choose our mindset and words to match our belief in others, in a way that will influence, motivate and/or inspire. This section provides an easy review and depth of understanding of the essential language skills: Committed Listening, Powerful Paraphrasing, Presume Positive Intent and Reflective Feedback. All – guided and focused from our coaching mindset.
Mindset
Leaders who fully embrace the mindset of a coach leader identity see its power and potential and commit to integrating coaching attitudes and skills in all areas of life.
Committed Listening
One of the essential skills for any ‘coach leader’ is listening. Committed listening demonstrates respect, concern, and openness to new ideas, empathy, compassion, curiosity, trust, loyalty, and receptivity to feedback – all considered to be qualities of an effective leader.
Powerful Paraphrasing
Paraphrasing is a skill that, when done eloquently, is a highly effective communication skill that can even replace the need for a question and is evidence of our committed listening.
Presume Positive Intent
Presume positive intent begins with your mindset and is evidenced in your language of positive presuppositions.
Reflective Feedback
Feedback is fundamental to performance and learning in individuals, community, and organizational situations. How we give feedback is a critical difference.
Standards & Expectations
Expectations serve as a focus point for every worker, supporting what to do and where to go. Most importantly, provide direction on how each person will meet the desired outcomes of their role.
