Open Wide for Gratitude
Our emphasis this month is on expanding a deeper sense of gratitude. After all, where we focus our attention gets stronger.
How would you define gratitude? While there are many definitions, let’s say it is a positive state of being, encompassing appreciation and thankfulness for people, experiences and things in our lives, both large and small. Having an attitude of gratitude opens the door to a larger sense of well-being. It also holds the potential to deepen relationships, elevate our mood, and strengthen our ability to deal with day-to-day challenges. Just as water, food and sunlight nourish plants, gratitude helps cultivate a positive mindset.

What’s coming forward for you related to gratitude? Here are some possibilities for you to consider, if they are not already part of your ongoing practice.
- Call a friend and tell them how much you appreciate them.
- Visit a friend in the hospital or in long term care and let them know that you love them.
- Thank someone for their service.
- Say “hello” or “good morning” to everyone you pass.
- Offer a smile to others because after all “We all smile in the same language.”
- Sit quietly for a few minutes and focus on people, pets, or events that bring you a sense of appreciation.
Remember – open wide for gratitude and see what a difference it makes for you and those with whom you interact.
