The Importance of Doing Nothing
You may be wondering what our crazy schedule has to do with the importance of doing nothing?
Everything! Now is the right moment to consider the idea of doing nothing. That’s right. Doing nothing! Recently, in the middle of my own “busyness”, my brother sent me an email that caught my attention and seems to fit right here.
It began with this,
“Disconnecting from work lets our mind and body recharge.”
Further, it said,
“It ensures that when we are working next, we’re working at full capacity.”
(Jory MacKay)
Well, if that were not enough to get my attention here is what came next –
“If you don’t schedule time to maintain your equipment,
your equipment will schedule it for you.”
That hit a nerve! Right now my equipment is in need of some serious maintenance. I hear it from you too! Exhausted, worn out, stressed out, anxious, short on patience, and can’t wait – for the end of the day, for the weekend, for the end of school. To carry the metaphor forward, we might say we’ve run our machines into the ground and our equipment is in need of some repair.
So, it seems this is the perfect time to consider the Importance of Doing Nothing. What are your best ways of Doing Nothing? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Sitting and thinking – without any device in front of us.
- Walking in the woods or on the beach.
- Taking a nap – one of my favorites!
- Sitting on the dock to enjoy every minute of the sunset.
- Talking with your kids/grandkids without any agenda – just “being” with them.
What are you wanting to add to the list?
What are your plans for maintaining your equipment?
Great reminder!
