The Team Believes!

Remember the Believe Sign? It’s Grown in Strength!

believe hands

Take a look at this image from the Ted Lasso TV Series. Ted put the sign up and at first the team did not respond in a positive manner. Rather, many made snide remarks about it. Now look. All team members are touching the sign. They believe! And in the episode when this happened, the coaches are standing back and watching the team. This makes my heart sing. While this is from a TV show, I believe that a team who is “all in” happens in so many places, including schools across our country.

What can we learn from this photo and from Ted Lasso? Here are a few thoughts:

  1. The leader, Ted, was very clear on his values and the way to lead the team.
  2. He led from a place of respect and caring for others.
  3. The only time he showed disappointment in a team member was when that person was more concerned about his ego and how he looked, rather than how the team worked together.
  4. When Ted said or did something that was out of alignment with his core values, he would apologize directly to the person he had disrespected. Most of the time, the person was surprised that the leader would humble himself.
  5. He did not try to be the star coach. In fact, he would step back and let others lead.
  6. There were times when he felt overwhelmed and would reach out for help.
  7. He loved, listened, he cared, and he trusted.

What about you? How are these points speaking to you and your belief in your team?
