What Makes Exceptional Leaders

One of my favorite authors on leadership is Dan Rockwell.  He is known as the “Leadership Freak.”

Recently Dan wrote information that seemed perfect for this time in the school year – when things seem overwhelming and stressful. The question for leaders might be, taking a frequent question from the medical director in the TV show, New Amsterdam; “How can I help?”

Dan offers these thoughts:

“Average leaders get things done. Exceptional leaders build environments where others get things done.”

“Average leaders fix. Exceptional leaders build.”

And, a really powerful quote from Simon Sinek, “Leaders are not responsible for the results, Leaders are responsible for the people who are responsible for the results.”

Dan offers the following acronym of practice if you want to build environments where others get things done…

B – Boldness – Be courageous, be passionate, have the energy for work.

U – Uplift hearts – Care for your people, let them know they matter, believe in them.

I – Involvement – If you want people to engage, then involve them.

L – Love people – Better yet, see untapped greatness in people.

D – Delegate – When you do, they feel an important part of the team and work.
